What is SquirrelOS?

SquirrelOS is a delightful, browser-based operating system that lets you interact with cute apps, themes, pixel pets, and more — all in a chunky, retro-fabulous style. No installs. Just vibes.

Main Features

  • Desktop: The home screen with app icons and your custom background.
  • Apps: multiple games and tools for you to use. including a proxied browser!
  • Import App: Load custom apps using .b64 files (made with the App Maker above!).
  • Local Save: Everything is saved in your browser.

Getting Started

  1. Open SquirrelOS: Just go to the main SquirrelOS HTML file and open it in your browser.
  2. Click around: Try out the built-in apps like Notepad, Music Player, or your custom ones!
  3. Customize: Open the settings app to personalize your name, theme, and background image.
  4. Save Settings: Hit the save button to store your OS configuration locally.

Importing Apps

  1. Click the “Import App” button (usually on the taskbar or desktop), OR get a premade app from the appstore made by users alike or the owner!
  2. Choose your .b64 app file IF usxing your custom app.
  3. Click the icon to launch your app!

Tips & Tricks

  • Right-click an icon to delete or rename it (if enabled).
  • Your data is saved in localStorage — clear it if something’s stuck or buggy.
  • You can resize a window by hovering on the bottom right corner of a app and holding then dragging to resize.
